WISCASSET (NEWS CENTER Maine) - Julio Carrillo, the 51-year-old accused of murdering his stepdaughter, was physically assaulted in jail, according to Waldo County Sheriff Jeff Trafton.
Carrillo is charged with the depraved indifference murder of 10-year-old Marissa Kennedy. Her mother, Sharon Carrillo, is also charged. According to court documents, the two confessed to brutally beating Marissa Kennedy until she died.
Sheriff Jeff Trafton says Carrillo was kicked in the head on Saturday around noon by a fellow inmate at the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, where he is being held on $500,000 bail.
Carrillo was taken to Mid Coast Hospital, where he was later released.
Sheriff Trafton says Carrillo is back at the jail and is being held in a "special management unit" for the time being.
Paul Andrews, age 34 and from Jackson, Maine has been charged with Assault and Criminal Threatening, both class D misdemeanors.
Carillo’s attorney says this is the first he’s hearing of the attack and he’s meeting with his client tomorrow morning and ask him what happened. Right now he has no comment but hopes to have one after his meeting with his client tomorrow.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
