LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Saturday kicks off the annual Coats and Toys for Kids campaign, a project of NEWS CENTER and the Salvation Army, together with Hannaford and Shaw's supermarkets and Pratt-Abbott Cleaners.

Salvation Army members say the need for help for needy families is as great as ever, despite a seemingly improved economy and a low unemployment rate. Lt. Holly Johnson of the Lewiston-Auburn Corps of the Salvation Army says there are always new families and individuals moving in, as well as those who lose jobs or otherwise need financial help.
