WESTBROOK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Westbrook police say the suspect in an armed robbery of a Rite Aid on Maine Street in Westbrook has a lengthy criminal history that spans 5 decades with arrests as far back as 1970.

Police say 62-year-old Mark Lyon, a transient, concealed merchandise and then left the store this past Sunday. According to police, when Rite Aid staff confronted Lyon in the parking lot, he allegedly brandished a knife in a threatening manner and fled on foot.

Westbrook Polie Officers Melissa May and Jaci Lorenzen were nearby at the time of the call and located Lyon hiding behind some trash cans in the driveway of 420 Main Street. Officers May and Lorenzen took Lyon into custody and recovered the knife that was used in the crime. Lyon was taken to the Cumberland County Jail and charged with robbery, criminal threatening and an outstanding warrant for felony theft.

He is being held in lieu of bail.
