Portland ranked seventh-best city to find a job in 2018

PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine) — Maine's largest city is the nation's seventh-best place to find a job in 2018, according to a new report.

Personal finance website WalletHub recently analyzed the latest jobs report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and ranked each city according to its estimated strength of the city's job market, as well as socioeconomic factors such as median annual income and housing affordability.

The national employment rate is currently at a 17-year low of 4.1 percent, according to the BLS employment situation update. WalletHub says college graduates, especially, will see a strong boost in their job prospects.

Portland received a total score of 63.06 in WalletHub's report, which was largely based on two sub-rankings: 10th in job market and 12th in socioeconomics. The site also ranked Portland fifth for most job opportunities.

Lewiston at No. 62 was the only other Maine city to make the list. Nearby Boston was ranked No. 10.
