Body of missing Portland man found by search team

*UPDATE* 3/14 8:45p – The body of Robert Smith was found late Wednesday afternoon by a search team, Portland police said in an updated release.

Canine teams from the Maine Warden Service and Portland Police Department recovered the body at about 5:30 p.m., less than 32 hours after Smith was last seen by a neighbor.

Police said the cause and manner of death are pending an examination by the Chief Medical Examiner's Office.

PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine) — Police in Portland are asking the public for assistance in locating a 50-year-old man last seen Tuesday.

Police said Robert Smith has been missing since he left his home on Luke Street at about 10 a.m. A neighbor told police they saw Smith walking into the woods at the end of the street during the snowstorm.

Smith suffers from depression and was drinking at the time of his disappearance, police said. He left his cellphone and wallet at home.

He's described by police as a white male who is 6 feet 1 inch tall and 210 pounds with short brown hair and brown eyes. They said he was wearing a fluorescent yellow coat and matching pants when last seen.
