MILLINOCKET, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Local and state police are investigating a stabbing that took place Monday night on Rice Farm Road in Millinocket.

Police said they arrived at the victim’s home just after 4 p.m. where they found the victim, a male, lying in his backyard with multiple bruises to his face and a cut across his neck.

Police have not identified the man but said he was taken by helicopter to the hospital. He is expected to survive. One Millinocket resident said the town is in complete shock.

"It's unreal. We don't need any advertisement like that for Millinocket," said Robert Frost. "We like to do the best we can, the good thing. But there is a bad apples in every bunch."

Millinocket and state police are still investigating, and a suspect has not been identified at this time.

The chief said there is no threat to the public.
