NEWS CENTER -- Several police departments in Maine are reminding the public to change their Netflix passwords after receiving a warning from Maine Identity Services.

According to MIS, Netflix is asking customers to reset their passwords. While the company hasn't had a data breach, they've "discovered that credentials that match your Netflix email address and password were included in a release of email addresses and passwords from a breach at another company," according to an email received by a Netflix user.

Below is the rest of MIS's post on Facebook on Wednesday.

Large internet companies routinely monitor the internet to quickly determine if their information has been breached. Lately there have been a few instances reported where user names and passwords have been exposed and offered for sale.

It is likely that these names and passwords were obtained from one one the many recent large data breaches including Yahoo and LinkedIn.

We remind everyone not to re-use passwords for your internet accounts. Protect your name and your financial information by using different passwords for every website.
