What it costs to go to Super Bowl LII from Maine

The median ticket price today according to Vividseats.com is $5,300 each.

PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Watching the Patriots play in the Super Bowl is fun enough while sitting on the couch, but how much would you pay to watch from a seat in the stadium in Minnesota?

Andrew Leighton, a travel agent with AAA of Northern New England said two round-trip plane tickets from Portland to Minneapolis can cost up to $2,000 per ticket for the weekend from Friday to Monday. The price drops when arriving on Saturday and/or departing Minnesota on Tuesday.

"The prices wouldn't be that high if people weren't spending the money," said Leighton.

Hotels in the greater Minneapolis area are mostly sold out. The few available are upwards of $700 per night.

"I looked at a Day's Inn yesterday. It was $800 a night. We checked it again today and it's $1000 a night and that's not even the Ritz or anything exciting," said Leighton.

Tickets to the game are the most expensive item on the list.

The median ticket price today according to Vividseats.com is $5,300 each.

Leighton said some people go just for the fan experience in the city, and do not even attend the game. He said AAA is not getting many calls, and can see why Minnesota's cold climate (compared to last year's location in Houston, Texas) could keep Mainers away.

"It's more than a game that whole weekend -- it's almost like a festival. So there's definitely a big enough following of people that are big enough fans who are going to make a trip regardless of the weather," said Leighton.

Budget some money for getting around the city -- the Metro Transit is a cheap option.

Three square meals can cost up $60 a day, and possibly more if drinks are included.

Souvenirs add to the cost as well.

Without tickets to the game, the cost for two fans sharing a hotel room can be nearly $4,500.
