This week's snowfall may be good news for snowmobilers

The weather could be just what the doctor ordered, as snowmobile events take place this weekend.

ORRINGTON (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- This week's snowfall may be good for those of you hoping to bust out the snowmobiles this weekend.

Trail masters say last week's warm temperatures mixed with rain and sleet caused trail conditions to deteriorate. However, they are hopeful they will be able to groom the trails to a more suitable condition after snow showers Wednesday.

"We're waiting for this storm coming in, and then we'll be out probably tomorrow," said, Byron Ogden, a trail master for Penobscot Snowmobile Club in Hermon.

Our reporters did not see many people out on snowmobiles Wednesday. In Orrington, representatives from the Orrington Trail Riders say they've told people not to ride on the trails since last week due to the warmer weather. The warmth created problems such as flooding in some places and ice buildup in others.

All last week, both organizations warned people on social media about those hazards.

A representative from the Orrington Trail Riders says it's hard to tell if more people will be out riding towards the end of the week. If temperatures stay below freezing, they encourage folks to get out on the trails.
