Police chief shows up to 2nd-grader's class with special surprise

A police officer in Holden paid a special visit to a second grade class in Brewer. Here's why:

BREWER (NEWS CENTER) -- A police officer walks into a second grade class at Brewer Community School, and it was a moment as wholesome as it gets.

Holden Police Chief Chris Greeley came to Mrs. Pierce's class as the bearer of gifts. He brought every kid in the class a teddy bear (the pun was intended).

Greeley was there to say thanks to one of the students: Leah Kelleher.

"She saw me in uniform, saw the police car, and gave me a plate of homemade cookies," Greeley said, of Leah's act of kindness around Christmastime.

Leah says she was surprised by Greeley's visit to her class.

"I was not even expecting that," she said.

This comes as Taylor Pierce's second grade class is taking part in the Great Kindness Challenge this week. It's a 5-day initiative that empowers students to create culture of kindness.

"We've been talking a lot about how even the smallest gestures can have the biggest effect on people," Pierce said.

This week, as Leah and her classmates go out of their way to be kind, they hope others will take their lead.

All of the students in the class wanted to say "thank you" to their police officers for protecting them.

Chief Greeley says the teddy bears were donated by Go Games and Toys store in Bangor.
