CARIBOU (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Thirty-seven-year-old James Peaslee of Easton made his first court appearance in Aroostook County Superior Court via video conference from the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton on Friday.

Peaslee is charged with knowing and intentional murder in connection with the death of 79-year-old Paul Hilenski, Sr. of Bridgewater. Police said Hilenski was shot and killed at his home Wednesday evening.

Justice Harold Stewart advised Peaslee of the charge he is facing and that no bail would be set at this time.

The Attorney General’s Office said the affidavit in the case has been impounded so no other details will be released. NEWS CENTER Maine has learned Peaslee is the stepson of Paul Hilenski, Sr.

A harnish hearing to address Peaslee's bail status is being delayed on a day-to-day basis until the court is ready to proceed.
