Professional courtesy dissolves in newsroom football feud

Although they work for the same company, putting up with the Jaguar fans at First Coast News hasn't been easy for the Patriots fan at NEWS CENTER Maine

PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Competing football loyalties brought out the sibling rivalry between sister news stations.

NEWS CENTER Maine is filled with huge Patriots fans like Lee Nelson and Todd Gutner. And the devotion to the Jaguars is just as strong among the staff at First Coast News in Jacksonville, Florida.

Both stations are owned by TEGNA, Inc. and also share a network affiliation with NBC. But our usually happy partnership is under strain as we find ourselves on opposites sides of the AFC Championship game this Sunday.

What could go wrong by bringing the anchors of both stations together? Since the meeting was conducted via satellite, there was no chance of punches being thrown. But there was no holding back the trash talk.

The First Coast News anchors trotted out all the usual insults about Deflategate and those two Super Bowl losses to the Giants. Lee and Todd took the high road. Being magnanimous is easy when your team has won five Super Bowls.
