AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Dozens of volunteers came out to lay over 6,000 wreaths on the graves of Maine veterans Thursday morning in Augusta.

It is an annual tradition made possible by the Wreaths Across America organization. The cold weather didn't stop the close to 60 volunteers from coming out to the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. Among the volunteers was Gold Star father Dean Barron. He lost his son almost seven years ago. He says events like this are huge part of his life and he hopes everyone there took something away from it.

"This is one of those healing things, good things come as a result of what happened here today" Barron said. "A lot of other people were touched, so that's what matters most."
