PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- Maine will receive more than $900,000 from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund to support conservation projects around the state.
U.S. Sens. Angus King, an Independent, and Susan Collins, a Republican, say the money will help bolster recreation efforts in Maine and preserve open spaces.
They also say the funds will preserve natural resources in Maine for current and future generations to enjoy.
Funds for the Land and Water Conservation Fund are generated from lease revenue from offshore oil and gas operations.
The money supports community-supported projects and recreation opportunities around the country.
