Maine students raise funds to compete in wind turbine challenge

PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Four students from King Middle School plan on traveling to nationals in a wind turbine competition. Eighth graders Allie Russell, Ruby Bradford, Meribel Collin, and Tess Conroy beat 28 other Maine teams for the invite to National KidWind Challenge in Chicago.

The students started a GoFundMe page to raise $3,000 for a bus to Boston, flights and a place to stay in the Windy City to compete.

This is the first Maine group to compete in nationals. King Middle School submitted two teams. Ruby Bradford and Meribel Collin are on team “The Recreational Hazard,” and Allie Russell and Tess Conroy will compete with team “Where’s Allie. The competition takes place May 8-10.
