'It hits close to home': Former Austinite in Maine worries about friends

Texas bombings worry Maine woman

(NEWS CENTER Maine) -- A Maine woman who used to live in Austin, Texas is talking about the five explosions that have rocked that city this month.

A tripwire explosion is one of the four blasts that happened in Austin.

Authorities there say it appears to be the work of a serial bomber and warn the devices are getting more sophisticated.

Vanessa Gauger worked in Austin for several years as a forensic scientist. She moved back to Maine last summer and says not knowing when or where the next one could happen, makes her feel helpless.

"That's why I worry for my friends down there," Gauger explains.

Some of the blasts occurred near Gauger's former place of work.

"It's frightening. It just hits close to home when it's a place you're so familiar with."

The previous three bombs came in packages and were made to look like deliveries. They were quietly left on doorsteps.

Two people died, and four others were injured.

The most recent explosion happened Tuesday morning at a FedEx distribution center near San Antonio.
