Hermon father and son die in snowmobile crash

Wardens say speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors.

HERMON (NEWS CENTER Maine) —

A 10-year-old boy and his 33-year-old father are dead after their snowmobile Sunday morning in Hermon.

Game Wardens say Jason Tracy was driving a snowmobile near Hopkins Road when he hit a tree.

Wardens believe speed and alcohol may have contributed to the crash.

Members of the Penobscot Snowmobile Club used a rescue toboggan to help Game Wardens responding to the accident.

The club’s trailmaster, Byron Ogden, says the father and son were on private land, not the club’s property at the time of the crash.

He’s also urging Mainers to be careful while snowmobiling to avoid a heart-wrenching accident.

“It's so important for people to drive with care and just be careful as you can,” said Ogden. “Enjoy it but try to make as little mistakes as you can.”

The 10-year-old boy killed was a student at Hermon Middle School.

School administrators say grief counselors will be on hand for students even though school vacation starts this week.
