PORTAGE LAKE (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- The combination of flaring tempers and firearms sent Maine State Police to visit a home in Portage Lake.

A call to 911 on Sunday at 9:30 p.m. told police that one of two men involved in a shouting match took their fight to the next level by firing several gunshots.

Troopers were on their way to investigate when they crossed the path of a man who claimed to be fleeing from the home. In the course of their discussion, the man told police he was not hit, although several shots were fired in his direction.

Troopers took up position outside the home. At the their order to surrender, 47-year-old Matthew Valone submitted to arrest. They took him to Aroostook County Jail on a charge of aggravated reckless conduct.
