GREENVILLE, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — A 19-year-old man from Greenville died early Saturday morning after a fire swept through an apartment building on Washington Street.

The body of Stephen Richards was recovered in the rubble of the house early Saturday afternoon, the state fire marshal's office told Public Safety Department spokesperson Steve McCausland.

Fire marshals told McCausland the cause of the fire at 56 Washington Street will be difficult to pinpoint because of the extensive damage.

Excavators were brought in Saturday to help find the body. The building was flattened.

Officials told McCausland the three people who lived in the second apartment of the building all escaped without injury.
