BANGOR (NEWS CENTER Maine) — A former 30-year-old teacher has been secretly recording women at public restrooms with his cellphone in Bangor, according to police.
Sgt. Wade Betters of the Bangor Police Department says they have been investigating Benjamin Emmott of Winterport for the past several weeks.
Emmott has reportedly been secretly recording women for the past few years at public restrooms, taking images from under their clothing.
Police have identified several of the women in Emmott's videos and they say none of them appear to be younger than 18-years-old.
Emmott was a teacher at Bangor Regional Program until February 23 when he resigned.
Superintendent Besty Webb of the Bangor School Dept. says during February school break the school was informed of the investigation. Webb says Emmott will not be returning to work and is not allowed on school property.
The school says Emmott photographed a school staff member without their consent several years ago but there is no evidence that current staff or students have been involved in his recent alleged actions.
Emmott is being charged with seven counts of violating privacy which is a class D crime.
Police say they continue to investigate.
