PALERMO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- State Fire Marshal's are investigating a blazing fire that destroyed a Palermo home early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters said no one was home at the time of the fire.

Firefighters said they got the call just before 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Several towns responded including Freedom, China, and Montville.

An excavator was brought in to take down the remains and to make sure the fire was out.

There were several flare ups throughout morning causing some firefighters to come back to the scene for a short time.

Assistant Fire Chief Scott Christiansen of the Palermo Volunteer Fire Department said the teamwork between area departments is a great feeling.

“It's a very community oriented organization the Chief and his wife are both on the department. Myself, my wife, my sixteen year old son's a junior firefighter. He's one scene helping out keeping equipment around the trucks keeping everybody good to go...It's really great to know that we have so many great people in the towns that I live in, the ones around us, just all working together trying to keep each other safe” said Assistant Fire Chief Christiansen.

The Maine State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
