Fetch ME a Home: Maine Chinchilla Shelter, January 20th, 2018

This week's Fetch ME a Home Featured shelter is the Maine Chinchilla Shelter with adoptable "chins," Lime and Coconut.

PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine)-- This week's Fetch ME a Home Featured shelter is the Maine Chinchilla Shelter with adoptable "chins," Lime and Coconut.

While some people think that because chinchillas bathe in dust that they are from hot, desert climates, these animals are actually native to cold, dry climates and that plays into their care. Chinchillas need dry air below 70 degrees Fahrenheit and they do best in the comfort of their cozy cage. Keeping the chins cool is very important, they have the thickest fur of any land animal on Earth! A strict but simple diet is also required, they don't eat the same things as rabbits or other domestic rodents.

The staff at Maine Chinchilla Shelter will be happy to answer all questions about their furry adoptable chins and help you set up the right environment for your new pet!

Fetch ME a Home airs every Saturday on the Weekend Morning Report. If you're interest in adopting other pets, you can do so at any of these other animal shelters near you: The Ark, New Hampshire SPCA, Kennebec Humane Society, Coastal Aroostook Humane Society, PAWS, SPCA of Hancock County, Cocheco Valley Humane Society, Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, Lucky Pup Rescue, Coastal Humane Society, Maine Chinchilla Shelter, and Animal Welfare Society.
