AUBURN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police accuse a father and son of working together on a robbery that involved an SUV being set on fire.
The burned-out Ford Explorer was found on October 15 on Torrey Road in New Gloucester. It was stolen in a robbery three days earlier on Park Avenue in Auburn.
Police said their investigation pointed to 49-year-old John Michaud, Sr. and 19-year-old John Michaud, Jr., both of Lewiston. As they began looking for the pair, police learned they had left the state shortly after the robbery.
Police filed for arrest warrants on the two Michauds on charges of robbery, burglary, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, theft and obstructing the report of a crime.
The warrants resulted in two arrests. Police first tracked down John Michaud, Jr. in Jacksonville, Florida on Nov. 5. In addition to the charges he faces in Maine, he is also charged in Florida with carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a firearm with an altered or removed serial number and loitering.
The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force caught John Michaud, Sr. in Eureka, Illinois on Nov. 21. He and his son are being held in the states where they were arrested as they await extradition to Maine.
Auburn police said the Michauds stand to face more charges upon their return. And police also conveyed their expectation to make more arrests in the case.
