ALTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police think icy conditions played a role in a car crash that sent a woman to be taken by life flight to the hospital today. The crash happened around 6 a.m. Monday morning on Bennoch Road in Alton.

Police said the women was conscious when she was pulled from the car.

Police said she was driving and swerved to avoid hitting a deer.

The 51 year old women was taken by Lifeflight of Maine to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

“She swerved to avoid a deer, went off the road possibly rolled the vehicle. The icy conditions of the road at that time may have played a factor” said Trooper Taylor Dube of the Maine State Police.

Bennoch Road was shut down for about two and a half hours.
