Downeast Horizons volunteers hold Earth Day Clean-up

BREWER (NEWS CENTER Maine)-- Around 75 area children and adults with developmental disabilities and autism along with their family and caregivers took part in Downeast Horizons’ annual Earth Day Clean-Up on Friday.

The volunteer group cleaned 2 cemetery’s in Brewer for a project to give back to the community. The Volunteers raked up sticks, bagged up debris at Woodlawn and Oakhill Cemeteries, all in support of Earth Day.

Downeast Horizons Executive Director, Anthony Zambrano said they don’t always get an opportunity to do this stuff and they really like too.

“A lot of times people look at these folks as people that may not be able to help as much in the community but if given the chance they can do a lot for this community and their community and they love being able to give back to the community and given the chance to do something productive.” Said Anthony.

Pauline Garcia is one of the Earth Day Project Volunteers. She said, “ I’m here to help and pick up sticks so the grave can be happy and nature wants us to do this and its good work and good help.”

Anthony said the group gets a wonderful feeling to be included in these projects knowing that they can be a productive part.
