ROCKLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- A pickup truck crashed into a telephone pole in Rockland late Saturday evening, knocking out power in the South End area, according to Rockland Fire and EMS. One person was sent to the hospital.
When police arrived on scene there was a telephone pole snapped in half and low hanging wires.
According to Chief of Police Chris Whytock, the vehicle was so severely damaged that they needed the "Jaws of Life" to extricate the lone, unresponsive occupant from the vehicle.
The patient was transported by LifeFlight where they were transported to the trauma center at Pen Bay Medical Center.
No one else was injured in the crash.
CMP was called to the scene and replaced the broken pole which restored power to the South End within a few hours of the crash.
