ROCKLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A man and his girlfriend were stabbed in their Rockland apartment "by another occupant of the residence" Wednesday around noon, according to police.

Rockland Police say George Gilmore, 32, of Rockland, stabbed the two and fled the scene. He was later found in the bathroom of a local business, where he was taken into custody. He was also taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for injuries from the altercation and released back into custody.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital, but the man was later Life Flighted to Maine Medical Center due to the extent of his injuries.

Gilmore is charged with elevated aggravated assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He's being held at Knox County Jail.
