Portland, ME (NEWS CENTER) -- Parishioners of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland took part in a special 12:15pm mass. As part of the holiday festivities, Bishop Deeley blessed several potted Shamrock plants, and passed them out to churchgoers.

The theme of this mass was to celebrate Saint Patrick, who members of the faith say drove snakes from Ireland, and grew a tree from a walking staff he carried. He is also the one credited with the use of Shamrocks during the modern-day celebrations as legend also describes him using to help describe the Holy Trinity.
