UPDATE 4:45p – Game wardens on Friday identified the body found Thursday night as that of 57-year-old Brian Peters.
Wardens say that Peters was well prepared for hiking and had good communication with his family regarding the hike.
They are now correcting a statement from later, which said that authorities are speculating Peters death could have been from exposure. They are now saying that it could have been a medical event.
ROME, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — The body of a 57-year-old man from Mount Vernon has been found along a hiking trail in the town of Rome.
Police aren't releasing his name just yet.
The body was found last night at around 9 p.m. by members of the Rome Fire Department. They had been searching the area around Round Top Mountain for the man, who had left home early Thursday afternoon to snowshoe.
No official word on how he died, though authorities are speculating it may have been from exposure.
The medical examiner is now involved and an autopsy is expected.
