WATERVILLE, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The former Waterville High School principal accused of asking an 18-year-old student for sex has surrendered his teaching certificate in exchange for dismissal of a criminal charge.

Donald Reiter, who was fired last November, was charged with official oppression, a misdemeanor that seeks to hold those in positions of authority accountable for their actions. The dismissal document states Reiter "agreed to permanently surrender" his teaching credentials.

Eventually, school officials and police who investigated the Waterville incident, learned of similar allegations made against Reiter in New Hampshire.
