Amazing moment when a Maine deer trapped on floating ice gets to safety

A deer stranded on ice floating down the St. John River jumps to safety.

ST. FRANCIS (NEWS CENTER Maine) — A Maine woman captured the surprising moment when a stranded deer floating, on a piece of ice in the St John River, reached safety.

Bev Jandreau says she got a call from her relative saying there was a stranded deer in the river. Jandreau’s husband is the Fire Chief and the relative wanted to alert him. Jandreau said her husband was out checking ice flow and ice jams so she went to check on the deer.

Jandreau watched as the deer floated closer to the shore. She said she thought the ice had finally taken him under the water when suddenly she saw him run up the bank and across the road to safety.

You can hear the audible disbelief in the video as other watchers too believed the deer had succumbed to the river.
