BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- An 82-year-old man from Tennessee became the oldest person to hike the entire Appalachian Trail within a year.
Daniel Sanders, known as the "Grey Beard Adventurer", completed the feat Thursday. He spent time in Maine as a part of the journey. In April, Sanders began in Georgia before making his way to Mount Katahdin and ending in West Virginia, at the trail's headquarters.
It was not an easy journey. In July, Sanders says he suffered from internal bleeding. This was while he was in Maine. He took two weeks off, before doctors cleared him to hike again.
When speaking to NEWS CENTER, Sanders says Maine is his second favorite state behind Oregon. He called Maine one of the most beautiful states he has ever visited.
The man who turned 82 this summer says next year he will take it easy and rest a bit.
