There are few soundtracks and film scores that stay in the collective unconscious as holdfast as the music from Jaws. All generations, even millennials, know the terror inducing bass line. There is a new release of the entire film score out on vinyl and Chris Brown and Mick Pratt from Bull Moose came into to share this and some other releases they have to suggest.
From Brandi Carlisle to Superchunk to Jaws, it runs the gauntlet.
Brandi Carlisle – By The Way, I Forgive You CD, LP
Everyone who has heard this Americana artist seems to love her. How does this, her 6th album, compare to her previous albums?
The Florida Project – DVD, Blu-ray
Willem Dafoe received a bunch of Best Supporting Actor nomations for his role in this film. The Florida Project focuses on a six-year-old who lives with her mother in a motel near Disneyland. Her mom is having trouble making ends meet, so the girl is frequently left alone with her friends and their imaginations.
Superchunk – What A Time To Be Alive – CD, LP
Superchunk is one of the great alt rock bands to come out of the late 80s/early 90s. They never had a major deal because the frontman, Mac, started his own label, Merge. (Arcade Fire, Spoon.) Superchunk still has that old “college rock” energy. Long-time fans won’t be disappointed.
Daddy’s Home 2 – DVD, Blu-ray
Wil Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg’s dads, played by John Lithgow and Mel Gibson show up to help celebrate Christmas. It’s another one of those comedies that critics disliked but teenagers and up think is funny.
Jaws – soundtrack – LP only
Why would this be a big deal now? Two reasons—it’s the first time John Williams entire Jaws soundtrack has been released on vinyl. (It’s a 2LP set.) The package is really cool too, with new artwork.
