NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Hard Cider is being produced by more and more Mainers each year and fall is their busiest time of year.

At Norumbega Cidery in New Gloucester they're starting to drain the juice from apples that are mostly picked locally. Noah Fralich started the business three years ago and currently offers four types of hard cider: Classic, Honey, Spice and Berry Medley. Last year he produced around 3,000 gallon.

"The more I sort of thought about it the more it kind of appealed to me for a lot of different reasons," said Fralich. "It was an agricultural pursuit, it was a business endeavor, it was creative."

Fralich's hard cider is sold in more than 50 retail stores and 10 bars and restaurants. It's been a business venture he's not alone in as he's seen more Mainers start to produce and sell their own hard cider. Discussing among each other what worked and what didn't each season.

"Probably a half a dozen or so new cider makers here in Maine and I know at least three or four of them and we do get together and talk on a regular basis," said Fralich.

Norumbega Cidery will be holding an open house November 12 starting at 2 pm. They're located at 380 Woodman Road in New Gloucester.
