Bixby & Co. - A growing Maine business

When people talk about what Maine needs, it usually doesn't take long before someone says "more young people." And if the conversation continues, someone will likely says the state needs more businesses.

When people talk about what Maine needs, it usually doesn't take long before someone says "more young people." And if the conversation continues, someone will likely says the state needs more businesses.

In Rockland's Bixby & Co., they'll find both.

Kate McAleer started the company when she was inspired to provide a candy bar that was better for you than the everyday options. Bixby & Co. sells craft snack bars, drinking chocolates and a bite-sized version of the bars. The chocolate is organic and fair trade. The bars have no additives, preservatives or corn syrup and contain much less sugar than regular candy bars. They're gluten-free and non-GMO.

McAleer and her employees (including her Mom and Dad) make about 5,000 bars a day. And they're looking to expand.
