Acadia Auto Auctions donates to House In The Woods

Acadia Auto Auctions in Richmond auctioned off a Mercedes Benz to raise money for House In The Woods that takes veterans on hunting and fishing trips. They also donated a side by side ATV to the organization.

RICHMOND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Last September we introduced you to the organization House In The Woods. They help veterans by introducing them to the therapy of the outdoors and recently received some help from Acadia Auto Auctions.

The Richmond auction company donated a side by side ATV vehicle to House In The Woods and auctioned off a 2005 Mercedes Benz for $4,100. That money will be used by House In The Woods founder Paul House who started the organization after his son Joel House was killed while serving in Iraq in 2007.

"To take something personal and donate it. It's like a person's time. If a person gives their time, to me that's worth its weight in gold," said House.

Acadia Auto Auctions CEO, Dave Wescott, also handed House a check in the amount of $5,000 from a golf benefit that was held. That money, combined with the funds raised during the auction, will help with a new 5,000 square foot building in Lee that will house veterans during their hunts in Maine.

"It's about the veterans that are going to make use of Paul's generosity," said Wescott.

Wescott plans on continuing the fundraising efforts for House In The Woods to help pay for two more side by sides that combined will be red, white, and blue in color.
