A song writing legend with a guitar

Mary Gauthier writes songs with veterans

There are a handful of people that can put a life time of experience inside a song. The music, the melody, and the words, all combine together to transport you to another lifetime, another experience. The experience of the character in the song. Maybe someone invented that the writer made up, but the words speak to your heart and it the song feels like it's about you.

Mary Gauthier is one of these writers. An artist with a guitar and the ability to bend words. She has released her latest album Rifles & Rosaries that is written with veterans that have experienced the trauma of warfare, suffer from PTSD, and can barely get out of their shell. Mary reinterprets their stories of suffering into songs that bring hope. They bring hope to the writers of the songs, and to those that hear them.

But don't take my word for it. Mary is playing at One Longfellow Square tonight. Doors open at 8.
