SOMERSET COUNTY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Palmyra man faces charges for allegedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl.

36-year-old Jacob Vanadestine was arrested Thursday evening, according to the Somerset County Sheriff's Office.

They say the alleged assault was reported Oct. 8th. The investigation revealed Vanadestine was using Facebook and texting to solicit the victim.

Deputies pretended to be the victim and arranged a meeting with Vanadestine. He was arrested and charged with solicitation of a child to commit a prohibited act, unlawful sexual contact, sexual misconduct with a child under 12 years of age and unlawful sexual touching.

Vanadestine is being held at the Somerset County Jail.

The Somerset County Sheriff's office urges parents to know what conversations take place on their children's social media and texting accounts.
