New substance abuse treatment center opening in Hancock County

ELLSWORTH (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Looking to help fight the drug epidemic, a new treatment center opened on Monday in Ellsworth. The Downeast Treatment Center brings together local health care providers.

The new treatment center is a collaboration that includes AMHC, MDI Hospital, Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, MDI Hospital and Healthy Acadia.

“There's a big need for this as a lot of people are struggling with a opioid independence in the community," said Linda Napier of the Ellsworth Treatment Center. "And it's all walks of life -- all ages.”

Downeast Treatment Center offers medication-assisted treatment and peer recovery coaching for individuals in need.

“[What's] really unique about this is having this hub where people can come and get the dedicated committed treatment that they need," said Blue Hill Memorial President John Ronan, "but then being able to go back home and deal with their primary care providers continue to get treatment."

If you or someone you know needs drug rehab help, Downeast Treatment Center can be reached at 1-800-244-6431 or visit their website.
