Woman 'seriously injured' in stabbing, Bangor man charged with attempted murder

The suspect, Joshua McAuliffe, 40, of Bangor, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.

BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor Police Department is investigating a stabbing that happened early Wednesday morning on Westland Street. Police confirm to NEWS CENTER Maine it was a domestic violence incident and a suspect has been arrested. 

According to a press release issued around noon on Wednesday, police say police and the Bangor Fire Department responded to a home on Westland Street for a domestic disturbance, where an adult woman was reported to have been stabbed. 

Responding officers found the victim, who sustained "very serious" injuries, police say. She was taken to a local hospital for emergency treatment. 

The suspect, 40-year-old Joshua McAuliffe of Bangor, was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Detectives from the Bangor PD Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the incident.
