Our Clear the Shelters Day was a huge success. Hundreds of pets found their forever homes, not just in Maine, but throughout the country.
NEWS CENTER Maine teams up with animal adoption centers in Maine to find forever homes for our furry friends.

PORTLAND/BANGOR, MAINE –- (August 24, 2017) – NEWS CENTER / WCSH 6, WLBZ 2 today announced that Clear the Shelters resulted in more than 500 local pet adoptions. This was the first year that NEWS CENTER hosted Clear the Shelters in MAINE. Launched in July 2017 and culminating on Clear the Shelters day, Saturday, August 19, the pet adoption initiative included the participation of several animal shelters in Maine.

“Mainers really love animals. Taking time out of a busy summer and adding a pet to their household shows just how much they care,” says Judy Horan, President and General Manager at WLBZ 2 in Bangor. “Maine people adopted over 500 animals since the Clear the Shelters campaign started in July and brought home over 300 of those adopted on that Saturday alone. That says it all.”

Nationally, the third annual Clear the Shelters campaign resulted in the adoption of more than 72,000 pets. Since 2015, the NBC and Telemundo owned stations’ Clear the Shelters campaign has resulted in more than 140,000 pet adoptions.
