KITTERY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- If a little sugar rush is what you need to cope with the rush of holiday travel, NEWS CENTER has you covered.
This Thanksgiving will see the heaviest travel volume in 12 years, according estimates by AAA. Between Tuesday morning and Thursday evening, more than 50 million Americans are expected to hit the road, rails or airways. That is an increase of 3.3 percent over last year.
AAA projects traffic to peak at noon on Thursday. Its recommendation to air travelers is to arrive at the airport 75 to 90 minutes before takeoff.

With so many people crossing paths, tempers are liable to flare, especially on an empty stomach. NEWS CENTER tried to keep the peace by providing donuts and coffee to travelers on Wednesday morning at the rest area along the Maine Turnpike in Kittery.
Of the many people who partook in the snack, a common theme emerged. Over and over they spoke about their willingness to drive long distances in order to reconnect with family.
