PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Portland's Harvest on the Harbor kicked off Thursday.

It's a three-day-long event celebrating local and sustainable foods.

The weekend began with a sustainable seafood soiree.

A handful of local chefs took part, making dishes from fish like mackerel.

Even if you're not a foodie, the folks preparing it say you still might find some of the different dishes enjoyable.

“I think you just have to come in with an open mind and trust the chefs,” said Avery Richter, executive chef for the Black Tie Company.

“Really, people may not like everything but at least give it a try because you may go home and find you may like a dish and visit that restaurant and it will come full circle.”

The Harvest on the Harbor continues through Sunday afternoon.
