Clare Egan prepares for Olympic showdowns in biathlon

Clare Egan has always been a force in long-distance running and skiing. At Cape High she won four state championships. She went on to Wellesley where she started the Nordic ski club., She had eligibility and skied at the Division One level during grad school at UNH. She took up biathlon two years after college and now is going to the Olympics.

Lake Placid, New York (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Despite being an incredible athlete, Clare Egan is an unlikely Olympian. She took up her sport of biathlon just five years ago.

She was a great track and cross country athlete at Cape Elizabeth High School and Wellesley College.

In fact, she is the second Cape woman (Joan Samuelson) and first Wellesley Alum to make the Olympic games.

Since she had eligibility after Wellesley, she also skied a year at the Division 1 level for UNH during grad school.

She currently lives in Vermont where she has developed her biathlon skills as a member of the Craftsbury Green Racing Project.

Her top individual finish in a World Cup event is 16th.She was 32nd in the Pursuit and 23 in the Spring in World Cup races in Presque Isle in 2016.
