WESTBROOK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- It is a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together.
And they did for Don Doane. Once listed among the best jazz trombonists in the world, traveled the country Maynard Ferguson and Europe with Woody Herman.
This talented man from Maine was at the top of his game when he walked away from that career -- in order to start another, back home with his wife and four kids. Teaching children to love music the way he did.
He is described by former students as an amazing teacher, who taught them much more that music. He taught them manners, and determination, and follow, though. In short, he taught them about life.
Don died last year and his family and community are remembering him Friday night November 18th, with a tribute concert. It is a fundraiser for the scholarship the family has started in Don's memory.
Tony Boffa, a former student/friend will emcee. The concert is Friday night at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland. Doors open at 6:30. The tribute band, which includes Don's brother Al, will be playing jazz favorites from 7-8. Then you can dance the night away with the Carmine Terracciano Band.
Tickets are $20 in advance $25 at the door.
